Stress Fracture?

I’m really starting to think that I have a stress fracture in my foot. Everything else except the outside bone/muscle on my right foot is back to normal. After about 10 minutes of walking on it I feel pain that gets worse the longer I walk on it. I looked up the symptoms and it would appear I match them.

Should I go to the doctor just in case?

Small Update

Well waking up this morning on day 3 of healing from the 10 mile walk and I can wear shoes again! I’ve been in sandals the last few days because my feet were so swollen.

I’ve been using an application for the iPhone called Lose it! It’s a very good calorie tracker but I wish it could sync to a space online that I could import into wordpress. Add this to the next release!

The Aftermath

Here we are just a few days after the half marathon and I’m still fairly sore and still having a hard time walking. It hurts to weight either foot because of the pain on the outside edges of my feet. They are swollen to the point that I can’t wear my normal shoes so it’s been sandals the last few days. OUCH!

My knees still don’t hurt (I’m shocked) but my upper legs and are starting to really get sore now too. It’s a familiar burning feeling, and it feels good.

Half Marathon Baseline Experience

This weekend I was in Erie, PA for a half marathon put on by the Erie Runners Club.

We got up around 5AM to start to prepare for our race. I was shockingly awake for that early and I felt pretty good. We arrived early and got situated and prepared.

I had made the choice to walk it without preparing at all or training for the race… big mistake. I started out in second to last place which was fine. I wasn’t looking to place at a decent time but I did want to try and go as far as I could with the intent of finishing. I had assumed around mile 6 I would have quit because that’s double about what I would do normally but I made it all the way to mile 9. I then took a break and walked to mile 10 where I had to call it quits because I couldn’t actually walk anymore. The pain was too intense (and considering I have a half sleeve tattoo, let me tell you this foot pain was bad).

Now… I’m very impressed that I made it that far at 290lbs and no training. I’m however annoyed by the fact that my best friend that ran the race in 2:09 finished and there was nothing to eat at the finish. He said he felt like he was going to pass out and there was nothing around. For a $30 entry fee, that’s just unacceptable. I’m not 100% sure I’m going to want to do another based on that alone. I’m pretty sure they made at least 20-25k from the entry and I know it didn’t cost that much to put on the race. Next time have some snacks for people!

At any rate it was good and I have a baseline to beat. 9 Miles and 2 Hours 45 Minutes.
